Girls on the Run of Eastern Iowa Development Specialist (Half-time)
OVERVIEW
Girls on the Run of Eastern Iowa (GOTREI), a 501(c)3 serving girls in Johnson, Linn, Jefferson, Buchanan, Iowa, and Washington Counties, is seeking a dynamic, professional, and creative Development Specialist (half-time). Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, the Development Specialist is responsible for coordinating GOTREI’s overall development efforts including development planning, donor cultivation and stewardship, corporate sponsorship research and support, annual campaigns, fundraising events, and the SoleMates peer-to-peer fundraising program. The Development Specialist must possess a passion for the GOTR mission and the ability to comprehend and effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole-person health.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties of the Development Specialist include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Support and partner with the Executive Director and Board members on all major fundraising initiatives
- With the Executive Director, develop and implement annual fundraising plan
- Research, identify, and cultivate potential prospects including individual donors, corporate sponsors, in-kind donors, and major gift prospects; ensure thorough follow-up reporting and stewardship of prospects
- Coordinate with planning committees to develop and execute fundraising and cultivation events
- Maintain and monitor donor relationship management database
- Coordinate with Executive Director and SoleMates Committee to develop and grow GOTREI’s SoleMates Program
- Develop and implement, in coordination with Executive Director, a social media and communications plan related to fundraising
- Assist with development of marketing materials for fundraising purposes
- Collaborate with staff, Board and volunteers to gather stories and statistics that demonstrate the results and value of our programs
- Participate in outreach efforts
- Prepare fundraising reports for Board meetings; assist with annual report
- Act as staff liaison to the Development Committee
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support the Executive Director as necessary
- Serves as a role model for GOTR, exhibiting GOTR core values and mission
- Develop positive relationships with volunteers, Board members, community and staff
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor’s degree
- Prior nonprofit fundraising/development experience demonstrating success in generating revenue with corporate sponsors and individual donors
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; excellent oral communication and ability to participate in outreach events
- Excellent written communication, research, and organizational skills with ability to organize and manage information from a variety of sources and formats
- Demonstrated ability to draft compelling fundraising proposal, pitch documents and presentations (writing samples required)
- Excellent project management, collaboration and team participation skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize and make efficient decisions; detail oriented and deadline driven`
- Flexible and adaptable
- Computer literacy including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office and fundraising databases
- Ability to work some nights and weekends as needed
- Ability to travel throughout GOTR of Eastern Iowa territory using a reliable personal vehicle
Desired
- Experience with Girls on the Run (or other youth, education or wellness programs)
- Experience working with a Board of Directors
- Strong connections to the local community
